Hand Held Metal Detectors

Welcome to handheldmetaldetectors.net! We are your source for the very best in personal security technology. We have been in business for more than 12 years, and the secret to our success has been simple. We find the best security products out there and offer them to you at prices that can’t be beat. That formula has helped us become the internet’s leading seller of hand held metal detectors.

The principles behind metal detectors are actually fairly simple, and some of them have been known for centuries. For example the first practical metal detectors were used during World War I to clear minefields that the Germans left as they retreated. Because of the initial use as military technology, the invention of these marvelous machines was kept a secret for half a century! The first machines were huge, and required battery operation along the lines of a truck battery. As time has gone on however, the technology has advanced and detectors have shrunk. Today you can get a handheld metal detector that weighs in at just a few pounds, and is far more sensitive than anything they had back then.

Modern uses for handheld metal detectors abound. Many treasure hunters spend their discretionary time with a one of these machines searching a variety of areas. What they find depends largely on where they are looking. For example, running a metal detector through a concert venue after the crowd leaves is bound to pick up loose change, the same is true for after a sporting event. The beach is an ever-popular area to comb, and it’s one known for turning up surprises. Believe it or not, going out into the desert with a metal detector (and hopefully some water!) can yield some impressive results. Out in the desert and at the beach, you become more likely to find something such as gold nuggets or other metal bearing rock than coinage, but you never know where someone might have thought to hide a stash of artifacts.

Those are merely recreational treasure hunting uses for hand held metal detectors. As mentioned, the first use for these machines was to save lives, and they are still used extensively for security purposes. Courthouses, airports, stadiums, and even some schools have detectors set up at the entrances. These detectors are the walk through variety, rather than the hand held type. However, as anyone who has been tagged for extra screening at the airport can attest, there are also wand detectors which can provide a much more accurate picture of where a person might be concealing metal; such as the metal found in a gun or knife. Many modern security forces utilize both hand held and stationary styles of metal detectors.

However when it comes to personal safety, a metal detector isn’t always an appropriate response. For example, while scanning guests coming to a party at your house might be a good idea; if you’re accosted by a mugger, it really won’t help you much to scan him. In that case you need a more direct response to the threat. Lucky for you, we carry a full stock of pepper spray, mace, animal repellent, and even tasers! That way you can go out secure in the knowledge that you have a response waiting for any potential assailants.
