Airport
metal detectors have played a large role in ensuring airport safety.
It is a well-known fact that airport security has gotten much tighter
in recent years.
For those who have not done a lot of traveling, there might be some
fear or trepidation about having to be screened by one of these detectors
in the airport.
• Go with the flow - Watch what others around you are doing.
A lot of people who are on the plane with you travel quite often. Pay
special attention to the preparations they make as they approach the
metal detector.
• Place your items in a bucket on the conveyor belt - The
first metal detector you’ll walk through scans all of the things
you place in the conveyor belt bucket. Inside of this bucket you will
have to place things like laptops, loose change, cell phones, belts,
purses, bags, etc.
• Be sure to empty your pockets - If you do not completely
empty your pockets, there is a strong chance you will set off the small
alarm as you pass through the larger metal detector. If you set it off,
they will ask you to empty your pockets and walk through again. If it
gets set off again, they will move on to the next phase, which is to
be scanned by the handheld metal detector.
• Handheld detector - The next phase includes a security
officer scanning your body with a metal detector. The detector will
move all around your body until it finds the area where the metal is
located. It is best to make sure you have removed all metal objects
from your person before you ever get to this phase.
By knowing how airport metal detectors operate, you will have a better
idea of what you will need to do to move expeditiously through airport
security.
